“Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world”. This is one of famous quotes from Malala Yousafzai, the winner of 2014 Nobel Price for Peace and Education, which lit up the spirit of BINUSians to discover more in the 2016 Classical Literature Appreciation Week.
There were various activities prepared by the languages departments to celebrate the Classical Literature Appreciation Week. It started from Chinese Calligraphy workshop which was arranged by Mandarin Department. The students were exposed to traditional method of writing using a brush and ink. It was such a different experience over the conventional pen or pencil.
English Department also prepared a few interesting activities such as fun games and storytelling competition. BINUS SCHOOL Serpong students have prepared their best to share fascinating ancient Greek folklores.
The Bahasa Indonesia Department also prepared a special event for the students. Ms. Heny in coordination with the LRC, under Mr Rico, invited a famous Indonesian author, Mr. Ahmad Tohari. Mr. Ahmad’s famous masterpiece is a classic literature novel titled “Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk”. Through this event, BINUSians learned more than just classical Indonesian literature, but also morality values from Mr. Ahmad Tohari. The students were really excited to personally ask him questions and ask for his signature.
The last day of 2016 Literature Week was the Culmination Day. Famous novels which were brought up to big screen, “Laskar Pelangi” and “Sang Pemimpi” were performed in Sjuman Hall. Mandarin Department also prepared a drama called “The Story of Nian”. The event could not be more interesting without the music performances.
The 2016 Classical Literature Week has inspired the students to learn more about classical literatures through the different languages departments. It was a great collaboration amongst the departments and brought out from the students their love for literature.
