This week, ECY/EL BINUS SCHOOL Serpong prepares a couple of activities to strengthen the moral character of our young BINUSIANS. The Guidance and Counselor (GC) team through Mr. Kholid & Ms. Dinari, our Bahasa Indonesia Teacher who prepared a seminar for parents about building children’s character through story telling. While Ms. Iin, our ECY Affective Coordinator, prepared an assembly and donation giving, titled “Our Little Helping Hands”.
Our best teacher story tellers, Klolid & Dinari shared some practical and fun tips for parents to tell various entertaining stories for their children as a way for creating closer relationship between parent & child. Moreover, it is a way of developing the creativity of the parent & child’s imagination. Children love to listen to exciting stories as they can easily absorb the messages, especially if it is told to them in an interesting manner. Recently, gadgets become one of the main entertainments for children. Hence, the aim of this parent workshop is to share an alternative activity for children, which is fun and educational. The moral of the stories as being respectful & obedient to parents, sharing to others, etc. are also highlighted for parents to help their child to reflect on how to practice those in their young lives.
In the past two weeks, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong family has collected the donation to support the “Our Little Helping Hands” assembly and donation. We managed to raise approximately Rp 13.000.000,00 to purchase some educative toys, such as puzzles. The donation is given to Sekolah Rama Rama (Rama Rama Early Years and Kindergarten), which provides less the fortunate students with affordable education and access in their reading community. Ms. Iin and her team also plan to directly visit Sekolah Rama Ram to further identify their needs, such as teaching aids and other school resources with the hope in mind of providing them & have the students enjoy their learning in their school.
As one of BINUS SCHOOL Serpong’s aim, moral character development is important for the young BINUSIANS’ future. We nurture this since their young age in order for them to positively contribute to the society. Booker T. Washington said, “Character, not circumstance, it makes the person.
