Language Week is a yearly event at BINUS SCHOOL Serpong. The series of events are classified into three main categories, which are English, Bahasa, and Mandarin activities. The events and competitions are designed to be hands-on and interesting for students to participate in.
The ECYEL teachers have prepared a lot of exciting events for the students, such as letter hunt, puzzle making, fruit salad making, trivia quiz, spelling bee, storytelling, author talk, garage sale, and many more. Parents were involved as well in this Language week. For instance, Ibu Ida delivered a folklore story, “Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih (Red Onion and White Onion)”, for EL 1 BINUSIANS.
Our young BINUSIANS are exposed to various academic and affective learning curves. Throughout the Language Week, not only they exercised their language skills, but also their confidence, public speaking ability, and even their hidden talents: such as singing, role playing, and poem reading.
On the last day of the Language Week, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong held an Interschool Storytelling Competition (Lomba Mendongeng antar sekolah), where 35 EL1 and EL2 students from various schools competed. The participants went all out with their expressions, intonations, and properties for the competition. Great job students! While the older students are competing, our ECY students had a Storybook Character Fashion Show. They dressed up in their favorite storybook characters, such as Snow White, Batman, Captain America, and Tinkerbell. They are such little cuties making their kitten walk on the stage!
We hope all of you had fun, BINUSIANS! Thank you so much teachers for organizing heaps of activities this week! O. Fred Donaldson said, “Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.”
