“Bangsa yang besar adalah bangsa yang menghargai para pahlawannya.” – Bung Karno
The patriotic event in Surabaya, November 10, 1945 was one of the many great stories of the brave Indonesians’ struggle to defend independence. We must pray and be thankful for their services. That’s why we celebrate National Heroes’ Day every November 10th. Yet heroism goes beyond that. In fulfilling independence we are also required to be a hero within ourselves.
The nature and characteristics of a person said to be a hero are honest, courageous, and willing to do anything for the good. Therefore, with the theme “Semangat Pahlawan di Dadaku”, being a hero is not only on November 10, but takes place every day of our lives. Every day we fight at least to become heroes for ourselves, family, and friends.
“Don’t stop because if you stop we will be left behind. Don’t be weak, because weakness will cause defeat,” said one of Indonesia’s Veterans. With the passion still burning, the Indonesian veterans shouted “Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!”. We are inspired by their eternal spirit. We are inspired by their fight for Indonesia. We are proud, we are Indonesia.
