The Importance of Character Building and Leadership Education to Students
“You can’t give what you don’t have. We don’t only teach for information but also for transformation,” said Elsie L. Bait (Principal of ECY & EL BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Serpong) in front of the audience at the International Seminar on Leadership and Character Education Foundation for The Nations Future in Universitas Negeri Jakarta (Saturday, 4 February).
She elaborated materials on the “Implementation of Leadership and Character Building in Schools”. Generally, she explained the pertinence of integrating character building and leadership in teaching various subjects in the school.
She also took the opportunity to show how this is done in BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Simprug and Serpong, by expounding on the concrete steps taken by both schools in implementing character building and leadership to students in order to prepare them for the globalization.
“Character is who we are, how we make decisions. It determines our actions, words, and attitudes,” she underlined.
Within the seminar, Elsie surprised and mesmerized the audience by showing her talents in singing and playing guitar, as she sang a song on Character Building. The Audience was pleased as they were entertained.
”What a wonderful presentation!” according to one of the audience from Mataram, Nusa Tenggara Barat by giving a standing ovation for Elsie. (YD)
