INDONESIAN CULTURAL WEEK 2016
“INDONESIA INNER BEAUTY”
BINUS SCHOOL Serpong
Serpong, 21 April 2016 – BINUS SCHOOL Serpong INDONESIAN CULTURAL WEEK (ICW) 2016 is an annual event that elevates the cultural diversity of Indonesia and also to commemorate Kartini Day at once. With the theme of “Indonesia Inner Beauty,” ICW 2016 will expose the hidden beauty of each region’s cultures, such as Sumatra, Java, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, and Papua, which will be represented by BINUS SCHOOL Serpong’s Middle School and High School students. Located in Sjuman Hall BINUS SCHOOL Serpong, ICW 2016 aims to introduce and enhance the sense of pride toward our nation’s cultures that are less known by young generation and also to motivate students to participate in preserving and promoting Indonesia’s cultural diversity.
Indonesia is well known for its races and cultural diversity. There are more than 300 tribes scattered throughout Indonesia, which each has its own unique cultures. The beauty that comes from this richness has been a pride for Indonesia. However, due to the rapid globalization, young generation has begun to be reluctant to see the beauty of it. Understanding this situation, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong commits itself to consistently hold INDONESIAN CULTURAL WEEK annually.
ICW 2016 was held with competition, performance, talk show and bazaar. There was also traditional costumes exhibition made by students using second-hand goods.
“The reason we hold ICW 2016 is we want to improve students’ understanding about national identity even though BINUS SCHOOL Serpong is an international school. We hope ICW 2016 could be a media where students learn more about their identity, along with enhance their sense of pride to be Indonesian and especially Binusian,” said Stefanus Widya Roys, ketua panitia Indonesian Cultural Week 2016.
INDONESIAN CULTURAL WEEK 2016 is expected to remind Indonesian to the importance of preserving the cultural diversity as nation’s identity, as well as to inspire the younger generation about the the diversity and beauty contained within our own nation, namely Indonesia.
