The 8th International Youth Leaders’ Forum 2016

This year BINUS SCHOOLS are honored to be the host of the 8th International Youth Leaders’ Forum (IYLF) in Indonesia. IYLF is an annual forum from representative schools from five countries namely, China, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia and Australia.  This forum aims to provide a platform for student leaders from the five countries to engage and build stronger relations among like-minded schools to promote student leadership and youth development for the future generation.  Delegates to this forum are able to discuss issues pertinent to the region/world today.  They are able to network with their counterparts from various schools and are able to inculcate a greater political and social awareness amongst these global student leaders. The theme of current IYLF is “Unity in Diversity: Global Perspectives from the Next Generation”. The delegates are coming from Suzhou Foreign Language School (China), Hwa Chong Institution (Singapore), Bugil Academy (South Korea), Changshu International School (China), BINUS SCHOOL Simprug dan BINUS SCHOOL Serpong (Indonesia).

The opening ceremony of IYLF was held on Monday, 21 November 2016 in BINUS SCHOOL Simprug. Ms. Sherrierose Garcia Gonzales officially opened the forum as the host principal. Then Mr. Michael W. Hadipoespito, BINUS Managing Director, gave the executive speech. We are honored to have Mr. Al Busyra Basnur, the Director of Public Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Indonesia to gave the opening speech and welcome all the delegates from the participating countries. We are fortunate to have several respectable Keynote Speakers, such as, Mr. Dino Patti Djalal, Ambassador Wisber Loeis, and Father Benedictus Hari Juliawan, SJ.

During IYLF, the delegates have the opportunity brought up a topic of their concern and present it. Here are the topics of the presentations:

  1. BINUS SCHOOL, Indonesia : Gender Equality
  2. Bugil Academy, South Korea : Responsible Consumption and Production of Paper
  3. Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore: Peace, Justice, and  Strong Institutions
  4. Changsu International School, China: Reduced Inequalities
  5. Suzhou Foreign Language School, China: Life on Land

Beside the presentations and seminars, to make the most of the delegates visit in Indonesia, BINUS SCHOOLS have prepared several interesting activities such as, ice breaker games, ketupat making, batik pattern drawing, Jakarta excursion, cultural performance, and gala dinner.

It is important to increase delegates’ awareness of current world issues, however, through IYLF 2016, we also hope that they are managed to build a strong network among them as future leaders.  Thank you so much for spending your valuable time to attend the 8th IYLF in Indonesia! We are looking forward to be part of the 9th IYLF in South Korea next year!
