Ayo Dolanan and Wayang Show            

Generation Z born in the digital age – they are very familiar in operating various gadgets and attached to the internet. Hence, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong arranged some after exam activities which are different from their digital habits. The PE and Art Department arranged two events called “Ayo Dolanan” (means Let’s Play) and The Wayang (Traditional Puppet) Show. These activities encouraged the students to learn more about Indonesian traditions.

Ayo Dolanan was held with the cooperation with Komunitas Olah Raga Traditional Indonesia or KOTI (Indonesian Traditional Sport Community). Mr. Umam from KOTI excitedly invited the students to learn more about Indonesian traditional games, such as Salam Sabrang, Balap Karung, Enggrang, and many more. The students were so excited as well to be part of the games.

After Ayo Dolanan, the next event is The Wayang Show. The event was opened by an exciting music performance from Mr. Brian (MS/HS Music Teacher) and his team of students. Then followed by a Wayang Show competition from BINUSIANS. All the wayangs used in the show were made by the students themselves. It is not easy to be the puppeteer of Wayang, but our young BINUSIANS tried their best in the show. They told some parts of Ramayana story, which is an ancient folk story about Rama and Sinta.

In this era of digital, it is easy to connect to different parts of the world. However, often we do forget our own cultural identity. Through Ayo Dolanan and the Wayang Show, we learned that our Indonesian culture is very rich. Therefore let’s preserve and be proud of Indonesia.  Marcus Garvey said that, “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”
