Upper Secondary

Our Upper Secondary Programme supports students as they transition towards greater independence, responsibility, and ownership of their future.

Beginning in Grade 10, students continue their Cambridge IGCSE studies within the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework, strengthening their academic knowledge while developing the skills and confidence needed for the next stage of their education.

Grade 10 also marks an important transition point as students complete the MYP Personal Project and begin exploring their future academic pathways. Through academic guidance, career exploration, university counselling, and conversations with teachers and families, students are supported in making informed decisions based on their strengths, interests, learning styles, and aspirations.

From Grade 11, students can choose between two internationally recognised pathways: the Cambridge A Level or the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP).

Our Curriculum

Our Upper Secondary Programme combines rigorous academic preparation with opportunities for students to develop independence, critical thinking, and a clear sense of direction for their future.

In Grade 10, students continue their Cambridge IGCSE studies within the IB MYP framework. Through the MYP Personal Project, students explore an area of genuine personal interest, set an individual goal, conduct research, manage a sustained project, and reflect on their learning and final outcome.

From Grades 11 and 12, students choose between the Cambridge A Level and IB Diploma Programme pathways. Both programmes provide internationally recognised qualifications and strong preparation for university, while offering different approaches to learning and academic specialisation.

Through personalised pathway planning and university and career guidance, students are supported in making informed choices about their subjects, future studies, and aspirations.

IB Diploma Programme

The IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) is a rigorous and holistic programme that prepares students for university and life beyond school.

Students study six subject areas alongside the DP Core: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).

The programme encourages students to think across disciplines, explore different perspectives, conduct independent research, and reflect on how knowledge is developed and applied.

Through the IB DP, students develop:

Critical and independent thinking through inquiry, analysis, and reflection
Research skills through sustained academic investigation and the Extended Essay
Communication and collaboration through diverse learning experiences
International-mindedness through engagement with different perspectives and global issues
Balance and wellbeing through the integration of academic, creative, physical, and service experiences
Independence and self-management as students take greater ownership of their learning

The IB DP provides students with a challenging and well-rounded educational experience, preparing them to engage confidently with university study and an increasingly interconnected world.

Cambridge A Level

The Cambridge A Level pathway gives students the opportunity to specialise in subjects that align closely with their academic strengths, interests, and intended university studies.

Through AS and A Level courses, students develop deep subject knowledge while strengthening their analytical thinking, problem-solving, independent learning, and academic discipline.

The pathway encourages students to:

Develop in-depth knowledge in their chosen subjects
Strengthen analytical and critical thinking
Apply knowledge to complex problems and unfamiliar situations
Develop independent study and research skills
Build effective communication and academic skills
Prepare for the demands of competitive university programmes around the world

With guidance from teachers, counsellors, and the University Guidance Centre, students can select subjects that support their intended university pathways while developing the academic confidence to pursue their aspirations.

Approaches to Learning

At Upper Secondary level, students are increasingly expected to take ownership of their learning and prepare for the independence of university and life beyond school.

Through the IB MYP Approaches to Learning (ATL) in Grade 10 and continued development of these skills throughout Upper Secondary, students strengthen their ability to:

Communicate ideas clearly and effectively
Think critically and creatively when approaching complex challenges
Research and evaluate information to make informed decisions
Collaborate effectively with others and contribute to shared goals
Manage themselves by setting goals, organising their time, and taking responsibility for their learning

These skills are strengthened through academic study, the MYP Personal Project, independent research, collaborative projects, leadership opportunities, service, and other experiences beyond the classroom.

By developing these capabilities, students become more confident in navigating unfamiliar situations, managing academic challenges, and making purposeful decisions about their future.

Approaches to Wellbeing

Upper Secondary is a significant period of academic, personal, and emotional growth. We believe that wellbeing and learning go hand in hand, particularly as students navigate increasing academic demands and make important decisions about their future.

Every student is known, supported, and challenged to reach their potential. Through counselling, academic support, university guidance, and our Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), students receive the appropriate level of support based on their individual needs.

We also encourage students to take increasing ownership of their wellbeing by developing resilience, self-awareness, healthy coping strategies, and the confidence to seek support when needed.

Students, families, and staff work together to create a supportive environment where students can thrive academically while developing into confident, capable, compassionate, and responsible young adults.
