Emphasise Inclusivity and Diversity of Learning Environment to Bring The Success
Unity in diversity. That phrase is common in numerous slogans emphasising that the finest results come from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. BINUS SCHOOL Serpong holds high regard for all religious beliefs and practices, offering a range of activities that cater to the diverse needs of its students and teaching staff. The school respects all religions and has activities for them. Mr. Zinclaire D. Sultan, The Middle & High School Coordinator for Student Development at BINUS SCHOOL Serpong, knows this term well and has used its programmes that help all kids succeed in an inclusive learning environment.
“Here in school, we always work to create an inclusive environment for our students, especially the new ones, grade 7 and grade 10. We hold assemblies to orient our students about the school system, academic and affective programmes, as well as discipline system. Students are given various opportunities to explore and harness a sense of community,” Mr. Zinclaire said. Beyond the educational benefits, these programmes are also helping students to create networks and build relationships.
“We respect all religions. Students go to each of their religion classes at the same time during the religion class in their timetable. In addition, the school also observes religious events such as Lebaran, Christmas, Easter, Nyepi, etc. This, of course, is to enhance tolerance and respect as well as ensure that every student’s faith is represented,” stated the Coordinator for Student Development.
The BINUS SCHOOL Serpong assembly proves its religious tolerance. Mr. Zinclaire mentioned that in the community, different religions pray instead of the collective prayer. It makes praying more intentional for students’ and colleagues’ religions. Religious events were successful in the past and will have Religious Day Camp this August, for this academic year. These programmes teach students respect, tolerance, and acceptance in a safe setting.
Our school welcomes people of different nationalities. “Last year’s house activities allowed students to get to know their friends and gain more acquaintances,” says Mr. Zinclaire.
Additionally, there is a programme called The Houses that places students into Bear, Eagle, Shark, and Tiger Houses. Through this programme, all students from grades 7-12 are grouped into four houses. This is one of the ways BINUS SCHOOL Education encourages students to work together cohesively, even if they come from different backgrounds.
The commitment to accepting diversity extends not only to religion but also to nationality and cultural differences. BINUS SCHOOL Serpong takes great pride in providing a safe and inclusive environment for students from diverse backgrounds. By fostering an inclusive learning environment, the school respectfully allows students to #DiscoverNewHorizons by encouraging them to become compassionate and open-minded global citizens.
