The term “strawberry generation”, originally from Taiwan, is often used to describe Gen Z and Gen Alpha as being easily pressured and mentally fragile. The word “strawberry” symbolizes something beautiful and appealing but easily bruised when pressed—reflecting the perception that these generations struggle with criticism.

However, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong breaks this stereotype by once again presenting its annual School Production, featuring students from Early Years, Primary, and Secondary, as well as teachers, staff, and parents. Held at Sjuman Hall, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong, on Saturday, February 22, 2025, this year’s musical drama, “The Rise of the Houses,” tells the story of four tribe forces that must unite to achieve a common goal.

Through this production, our students have proven their resilience. Over the course of a year, they demonstrated mental strength, perseverance, and dedication, overcoming various challenges, fatigue, and obstacles to deliver an outstanding performance.

A Platform for Creativity, Business Skills, and Mental Strength

More than just an artistic performance, the School Production serves as a learning experience for students, helping them develop entrepreneur skills and test their mental endurance. Through this project, students plan, manage, and execute a large-scale production—learning firsthand how to bring an idea to life from start to finish.

According to BINUS SCHOOL Serpong Director, Gerald Donovan, this initiative aims to break the stigma surrounding the “strawberry generation” while also honing students’ creative project management skills.

“Many believe that today’s younger generation lacks leadership, perseverance, and resilience. Today, we have proven that our BINUSIAN students have what it takes—from conceptualizing ideas to executing every detail, committing to hours of rehearsals, trying new things, failing, and rising again. This makes us incredibly proud of our young BINUSIANS,” said Gerald.

Fostering Solidarity and Teamwork

The theme “The Rise of the Houses” was inspired by BINUS SCHOOL Serpong’s House system, which consists of Bear, Tiger, Shark, and Eagle Houses. This system aligns with BINUSIAN values, fostering a strong sense of solidarity and teamwork among students.

Shivangi, the production leader, shared how the year-long preparation process helped build a strong, united team, providing invaluable experiences and lessons for the future.

“This production has taught us so much—not only about creativity but also about leadership and teamwork, which were essential to bringing this musical drama to life,” Shivangi stated.

Through School Production, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong not only provides a platform for students to showcase their creativity but also equips them with essential business skills and mental resilience.
